Five Holiday Films for a Floridian’s White Christmas Fix

Down here in Florida, we make Christmas as festive as can be. Lights, trees, fake snowflakes, we have it all. One thing we’ll never have is a true white Christmas, but we can live vicariously through the movies that portray everything we’ve dreamt of. I know that with a white Christmas comes ice and slush and lots of shoveling, so for that I think I am content living out my holiday dreams through some of the best Christmas movies. Here are a few of my personal favorites, as a Floridian, to get my white Christmas fix.

The Holiday

This a story of two women who are lonely during the holidays, looking to get out of their hometown and experience something new. They find each other online through a house swapping program and trade places for Christmas. One film producer in sunny Los Angelos and an editor in a tiny little cottage town in England, quite the contrast! It’s a tale about finding yourself, letting go of what no longer suits you all the while falling in love.

Home Alone

Light hearted, hilarious and good for all ages, Home Alone is a staple every Christmas Season. One huge family goes on vacation and leaves behind 7-year-old Kevin McAllister, who manages to fend for himself, fight off burglerers and make for one fun holiday alone in his family home. If you love, it watch the sequel where somehow it all happens again.   Five Holiday Films for a Floridian’s White Christmas Fix

The Family Stone

Grab your tissues for this one. The Family Stone takes place in a winter wonderland up in Maine, where a family gathers together yet again for another Christmas. It’s a picturesque setting, so calm and tranquil, until everyone arrives and the chaos and comedy of a large family begins. The story is laughable, relatable and terribly heartbreaking, and its one of my favorite movies to date.

Elf

This is a different kind of white Christmas, one that starts out in the North Pole and quickly leads to Manhattan. It’s possibly the most popular Christmas movie, but if you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend. A human who has been raised by elves sets off to find his biological father, in a world he’s never been exposed to. The laughs are endless in this Will Ferrel Christmas classic.   Five Holiday Films for a Floridian’s White Christmas Fix

White Christmas

A classic, a romance, and a feel-good Rosemary Clooney and Bing Crosby film. Two sisters and two best friends meet and travel to Vermont together, where they stay at a bed and breakfast and decide to put on a show together for Christmas. This is a cozy, sit by the fireplace, hot cocoa and a blanket Christmas Eve kind of movie. Now you’ve got some watching to do! Keep an eye out for more holiday content throughout the season.
